ITA-COSUF - Committee on Operational Safety of Underground Facilities
ITA-COSUF - officially established during the ITA General Assembly in Istanbul, May 2005. The scope of the Committee is devoted to safety and security in tunnels and underground facilities in operation.

ITA-COSUF the Centre of Excellence for world-wide exchange of information and know-how regarding safety and security of underground facilities
ITA-COSUF - Objectives :
Develop and maintain a network to:
- exchange knowledge
- encourage collaboration
- facilitate the creation of dedicated teams and groups to perform specific (research) activities
- facilitate cooperation worldwide
- enhance research and development activities through combining of national, European and international funding and promoting support
Promote safety (and security) by:
- fostering innovation
- raising awareness of current and newly developed safety (and security) issues amongst decision makers, professional end-users, financers, risk managers, international forums and other stakeholders
- supporting the development of improved regulations
ITA-COSUF - Structure
Basic Structure
ITA-COSUF is structured in 3 Activity Groups (AG):
AG 1: Interaction with European and International Initiatives
AG 2: Regulation and Best Practices
AG 3: Research and New Findings
Led by Coordinators the AGs get their strategically advice and support from the Steering Board.
ITA-COSUF - Membership
ITA-COSUF addresses the following categories of people, organisations and bodies:
- decision makers
- professional end-users
- consultants and risk managers
- contractors, manufacturers and suppliers
- operators
- financers
- first responders
- international forums and other stakeholders
Currently ITA-COSUF has 57 members coming from 15 countries.
